Calling The Pest Control Experts When A Rat Is Out Of Control

July 11th, 2010

A witty rat is one that is not easily caught, and one that can produce a colony while you are sleeping. A rat is a household pest that can be highly destructive. It can nibble clothes, wirings on your home theatre, or on that imported Persian rug. Pest control professionals use time-tested means to get rid of the most cunning of rats. In recent years, earth-friendly means of rat control have been introduced.

One environmentally safe way to get rid of a sly rat is by digging compost. This involves creating a pit and throwing piles onto the pit to invite rats to go there instead of rummaging through things in your house. The key to composting is location. Make sure it is placed away from the house so the rat may not find its way back.

The limitation of the compost is that rats can still get out of it, leading you to employ other methods which are less effective and most of the time unsanitary. These include putting traps, or releasing cats to chase the rats. What do you with your compost then?

Pest control companies will help save the day. You can plan to monitor the compost and just before there is more population than it can handle, call your rat exterminator. As you desire to be earth-friendly, choose pest control companies that use certified environmentally safe chemicals. This is the same when you are dealing with a mosquito or cockroach problem.

There is also the bucket approach. Strategically position buckets around your compost. The buckets present bait which a rat emerging from the compost will be attracted to. When the rat goes into the bucket, it will have a hard time to come out. You will then do away with the rat.

How To Know If Your Home Has Termite Infestation

April 22nd, 2010

We are all at risk for termites, even though No one wants to have them. Termites can invade any home; they do not choose places to infest. Some may believe a termite infestation is just annoying, but they can do more harm than you may know. Termites are important in the circle of life, but they shouldn’t be invading our homes. If you do not detect them before they begin doing big harm, they can destroy your entire house.

It is rather unfortunate that homeowners don’t even know they have termites, not until a lot of harm has been done. Having some knowledge about the beginning signs of termites will help save your home before the problem comes out or escalates. Termites will do more harm to a chunk of wood in a short length of time. Hence, knowing what to look for can most likely help you stop termites before they can cause insurmountable damage.

You should know that not all termite attacks can be seen by the naked eye. Discovering these wood eating creatures may take a little more time and a more conditioned eye. You can find them living & feeding off your furniture, floors, walls & other areas of the home that is made of wood. Another tip to help determine termite infestation is checking in mud holes & piles of feces.

Inspect areas where termites usually would go, to see if there are any signs of infestation at all. Check your garden & lawn area; dead leaves, tree stumps and mud holes in the soil. Also check if your walls have cracks or spaces, ’cause they could be a termite’s entranceway into your walls. You should also check basement walls, moldings, window sills & doorframes.

If any show signs of feeding activity, you should reach a professional exterminator or pest control company. You can even do it yourself if you have knowledge & equipment. The main idea here is to detect the problem before serious problems arise.

Several Types Of Ants

April 20th, 2010

Ants can be found all over the world, in any country, at any climate condition. We can find them in our houses, in our backyards, & even in our workplaces. They live in colonies, & a single colony may have over a million ants. There are several different ant species. Some of the better-known kinds are the army ants, bulldog ants, driver ants, fire ants, honeypot ants, leafcutter ants, silver ants, and weaver ants. Ant colonies are comprised of three classes of ants, namely the workers, the soldiers, & the lone queen.

Ants are of different types and are 1 of the most common creatures in the world. Regardless of their small appearance, they could pose a threat to animals and even humans.

Ant behavior may be different according to their class. The size of ants range from two to 25 millimeters & their color may vary from red to brown or black.

Army ants and driver ants are highly developed ants. Driver ants can be seen in Africa & army ants are seen in South America. Unlike other species, they do not have permanent nests. Their colonies reproduce via two ways – nuptial flights or fission.

Ants that create their nests in trees by attaching leaves together are known as weaver ants. These creatures first force the leaves together with a bridge of workers & then they sew the leaves by pressing silk producing larvae on the leaves.

Ants with generally have enlarged abdomens are called honeypot ants. These ants are typically found in hot, dry places such as deserts in Australia, Africa and North America. Some places considered them as a great delicacy.

Leafcutter ants feed only on fungus and live only within their colony. They come in various sized castes to carry out several duties that are to be performed in the colony.

Ants that have a sac of poison are known as the fire ant. Their “poison” is known as piperidine alkaloids.

Lastly, one of the biggest & most primitive varieties of ants are the Australian bulldog ants. They have only 1 chromosome.

Pest Control And Its Extreme Importance

April 19th, 2010

There are many different kinds and forms of pests. It could be mice, ants, mosquitoes, termites, or any other pest it may be, they can all be seen as undesirable creatures that interrupt our daily routines. Getting pest control will help protect us from the damage they may cause, including, but not limited to: spreading disease, contaminating our food, threatening our health & ruining our homes.

It is very important to have expert pest control around any home where food is present. This includes anyplace from grocery stores to farms, to your own houses. If pest control isn’t utilized, these pests can get your food contaminated. It will make plants almost impossible to grow well, and of course impossible to eat.

Bugs are seen by most people as the major pests that hinder growth of food-producing plants. Other pests include birds, rodents, and even plant eating creatures. Controlling these pests successfully can be done using chemicals or organic pesticides, building fences and other forms of prevention, using traps, or using other forms of prevention.

Diseases can also spread quickly if proper pest control is not done. Bugs & insects can transfer diseases such as viruses & the flu, not just to people but to animals & food as well. We can start with prevention at home-apply bug repellent to reduce exposure to mosquitoes & other biting insects. Getting professional pest control in & around the home will also limit the number of pests that can threaten your health.

It is just as essential to get pest control against pests that can damage our homes & properties. The use of chemicals to get rid of & prevent attacks of insects that eat wood, burrow & chew holes in our lawn, and others, will help ensure your home is kept in good shape.

Because of health hazards, many people oppose using a lot of chemicals in & around the home. Nowadays though, there are organic alternatives that do just as good a job as their non-organic counterparts do.

Driving Away House Pests Chemical Free

April 18th, 2010

There is no reason to freak out at the sight of an ant, termite, mosquito, or rat beginning to feel cozy in your home. You got to remember that there are pest control tips which can help you get rid of these pests effectively. All you have to have is the willingness to study how to do it correctly.

It is up to you to choose which method to employ, but the natural and organic formulas for pest control are more advocated than employing pesticides due to the upshots of the detrimental chemical substances it can bring upon you and your family’s health. So to make sure your health will never be at stake, start practicing some deterrent steps.

Become familiar with what drives away these household pests and know how to use it.

There grounds why ants have been labeled as one of the most nerve-racking insects. It is because they come in extensive colonies and they are all over. Don’t put up but deal with them! Basically, check if you can track down where they enter in your home. The moment you know the exact part, it is time to ward them off with citrus oil, coffee grounds, or cayenne pepper spread over the spotpart as ants cannot go through these items. Garlic cloves, cucumber peels and spearmint leaves are known as products that take away ants out of your home.

Now you can start focusing outdoors, wall the ant hill with some cornmeal especially in the entrance. The entire colony will take it in to be shared. Little do they know that by consuming it up, indigestion would take them down within a week.

The unpleasantness of cockroaches wandering around your home is enough to make you want to do anything just to get them out of your sight. As you know, there are natural pest control tips suited to them as well! To avoid them, set catnip in the places cockroaches might frequent. But if they are already inside your home, put a container these cockroaches would easily find with a piece of bread soaked in beer. Beer acts like cornmeal for ants, it would kill them because they cannot digest it, too!

Stagnant water is the favorite breeding ground of mosquitoes. So the first measure is to free your yard with all standing water – the habitat of mosquitoes. If you plan on staying outdoors, put on a solution formulated with at least 30% eucalyptus. This acts like any mosquito repellant stores offer commercially. Plants with natural deterrent quality such as rosemary, marigold and sage in the yard keep the mosquitoes away.
