Rugs – Cheap And Easy To Use

June 26th, 2010

Today homeowners and decorators use area rugs to enhance the look and the feel of their home. Rugs are so much more than something to keep the feet warm; it’s an expression of what you like and how you want your home to feel like.

Rugs help to make a statement in a certain area in your home. Find a focal point or area that you want guests to notice. A rug can set one area apart from the rest without putting up walls or other means to divide it.

If your home is open inside without walls or minimal amount of walls then you can use area rugs to section off your home. You can have one placed down in your sitting area, your dining area, and so on. This will help guests to know which direction they want to go to.

Materials used to make rugs include: silk, wool, polypropylene, olefin, nylon, and blends. Wool and silk cost the most but they are worth the money. Synthetic rugs are colorful and beautiful while they last but they don’t always stand the test of time. There are environment friendly rugs to choose from. They include sea grass, mountain grass, hemp, cotton, bamboo, and sisal.

The kind of rug you choose is down to your personal preferences and the shared tastes of your family. Make sure, though, that the size of the rug is appropriate to the space available – a too-large rug can make a room look crowded, while a rug that is too small gets lost. And as far as colors are concerned, you should see that the rug either matches or contrasts pleasingly with your other furnishings and general color scheme of the room.

When you are placing a rug down on the floor remove all wrinkles and creases in the rug so you don’t cause anyone to fall. When placing the rug under a dining room table make sure you measure four feet more than the top of your table. This will allow your table to sit in the center of the rug and allow for enough space to scoot the chairs in and out without getting off the rug.

Rugs are available in different colors, styles, sizes, and shapes. You can also find one to fit into any budget. Synthetic rugs will usually start at or below $300 and around the size of a 5′x8′. Rugs that are made from natural fibers is a little more expensive but they are well worth the added expense. They can withstand a lot of traffic.

Keep up to date with decorating with rugs trends and enhance your home with cheap synthetic area rugs.

How To Use Your Rugs To Effect In Your Room

June 24th, 2010

Using smaller-than-room-size rugs to highlight particular areas in a room can be challenging if not daunting, due to several subjective factors that affect the choice of rugs and their placement. However, as in many instances there are ‘rules’ or norms that may be followed when placing rugs in a room. Some of these are the following:

Use a rug to fill up a large room. You can do this by choosing a corner or section of a large room to place a rug. Choose a size like 4′x6′ or 5′x7′ so it won’t be too large. You may want to choose a hexagon shape or round shape to enhance the look in that area. Try placing a small table on top of the rug. Barely place the front legs of each chair on the rug and the rest of the chair can be off the rug.

When using rugs in your dining room you will want to measure your table top and then add a minimum of two feet around in order to allow the chairs to be pushed back or forth and not be off the rug. If you do not allow for this extra room your chairs may go off the rug and cause the corners and edges to get caught up in the chair.

Try not to place heavy furniture on the rugs. This includes your china cabinets and serving tables.

A full sized rug is not recommended in the bedroom because a large part of the rug will be hidden by the bed and inspection for insect attack may not be readily possible. The rug may be already heavily damaged by moths but no remedial action is done because inspecting it is too much of a hassle. Using several small rugs at the foot of the bed and at the sides may be more appropriate and less expensive to boot.

A bedroom rug need be centered in the room but equal spaces between its two or three sides and the wall will give the same effect.

If you have an empty area in front of your fireplace or a bookshelf you may want to try centering a rug in front of it. When you add a rug it helps to give life and decor to that particular area and compliments the rest of the room instead of taking over it. You may want to consider an oriental rug for these areas.

Also, select a rug of hardy materials that can sustain heavy usage when placing it where human traffic is high. Machine-made rugs are less sturdy than handmade ones, and darker colors or tones are preferable. They show traffic patterns less obviously.

When rug decorating all the experts agree that it is essential to use quality area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular types is the cream rugs.
