There are 4000 different species of cockroach in the world. Only three, though, are known to invade our workplaces and homes and cause problems. There are a couple of other species that are similar, but can be found in the home a little less often. Every cockroach is more or less varied and has its own different features. However they are all pests & can cause great health hazards & damage to us & the people we love.
Distinguishing these roaches is pretty easy & can aid in extermination techniques. It could be the first step in iradication & control. Here are the three main types of cockroaches.
American Cockroach
The American cockroach can grow up to 25mm in length. It has a reddish brown color & single stripe on the head. These creatures get easily attracted to liquor. Hence, they are frequently seen in bars or at home after party where beer, wine & alcohol was present. They can live for around one & half years, and have an incubation period of 6 to 8 weeks.
German Cockroach
The German cockroach boast of a brownish or tan color, and 2 lighter stripes on the back of its head. They can grow up to lengths of 15mm. It is probably breeds the fastest among home pests, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. That is relatively fast, seeing one of them can multiply to 30,000 in just a year. These can live for around 6 months.
Oriental Cockroach
They are probably the biggest of these three. It grows around 25mm in length. These critters are a dark brown or black color with a shiny body & move generally slower than the other cockroaches. They are often referred to as the water bug because they like to live in dark, damp areas. They are potentially seen in damp mulch or cellars. Incubation can last 2 months with about 15 eggs hatching and they can each live for up to 2 years.
