The Peruvian Alpaca plays a similar role in Peruvian history and culture as the Buffalo has played in the history and culture of the plains tribes of Native Americans. Traditionally, certain animals have provided not only food but have been a source of goods which have enabled entire regions and even nations to survive: including sheep in Australia, New Zealand, Alpaca in Peru and Cattle in South America.
While we endorse personally the objectives of animal rights groups, we also are aware of the fact that nations, regions, communities and families around the world are dependent on animals for their food and livelihoods. We are simply retailers. Every major department store in the world retail animal products in one form or another, including belts, shoes, purses, handbags and a multitude of other items.
Our African animal products are obtained from licensed conservationist game preserves in Africa. And it is important to note that the goals and objectives of animal rights organizations and conservationist organizations are not always the same.
A universally animal friendly and cruelty free world will not be obtained by targeting retailers in after-market products. It will only be obtained when vast regions of the international landscape completely change their nutritional palates and in some cases their entire economy. It is difficult to estimate how many millions of individuals depend on the weaving of garments, rugs and other items from wool alone.
Some of these products have health oriented qualities, such as medical sheepskin used for infants and long-term bedridden patients, which simply cannot yet be duplicated by synthetic means.
