Not every parent planning to design a child’s living space believes that feng shui is necessarily a mystical art. Some believe that feng shui for children instead, uses practical rules and designs for creating a safer and healthier space for children. Whether a parent approaches these principles from a pragmatic direction or from that of a more mystical believer in the end goal is the same to create a living area which promotes happiness and energy and health.

No matter which school of thought parent follows, arranging a child’s bedroom according to these principles does make a great deal of sense. Just as colors can invoke feelings so can inappropriately arranged or cramped and unhealthy sleep and play areas promote negative feelings and emotions. Children are full of creativity and energy their play areas should reflect this. However, areas should be calming and restful and using these principles can help achieve this.

While not every believer in these principles agrees that the head of the bed should face in a certain direction to avoid negative energy, almost every parent also agrees that there are certain components that give a bedroom or play area a healthier feel. For instance, although playroom should be light and airy and encourage the release of energy and creativity, bedroom lighting is best when it is dark and calming with quiet colors for the sleeping hours.

In addition, many people believe that there should be an adequate distance around the bad for the child to be able to walk around easily. This has to do with the flow of energy in the room. In practical terms, it also is an arrangement that is conducive to their safety so they do not accidentally become wedged between the wall and the bed or bump their knees on furniture in the middle of the night due to an inadequate space.

In addition there are visual cues that can influence how a child feels and behaves during the day. A very practical example of a visual queue could be a picture a child and their family right beside the bed. Every night the child will be seeing this picture and it promotes a comfortable and safe feeling. Happy pictures can be placed around the child’s play area and bedroom to help give that space a much safer feel.

When it comes right down to it, whether a parent follows a mystical version of feng shui or simply practical the results are generally the same. The child will have a play area or designed with their comfort and security in mind. No matter how it is achieved every parent wants their child to be comforted and these principles can help achieve this.
